The Cure è un gruppo musicale britannico nato nel 1976 in piena esplosione new wave.
La sua formazione è variata più o meno regolarmente nel corso degli anni, comprendendo da un minimo di due fino a un massimo di sei membri. Il gruppo raggiunse l’apice del successo tra la metà e la fine degli anni ottanta (soprattutto con i singoli Close to Me e Lullaby); tuttavia l’anima primaria e fondante del gruppo, che ad ogni concerto trova sempre uno spazio speciale, quasi sacro, deriva dal periodo cupo dei primi anni ottanta, la cosiddetta fase gotica, descritta più avanti. Brani come “A Forest”, “One Hundred Years” o “Play for Today” ottengono sempre una grande partecipazione del pubblico.
La costante del complesso è Robert Smith, suo fondatore e presente in tutte le formazioni nel corso dei decenni di attività. (Wikipedia)
