di Samantha Reynolds (Toronto, 1972)
Non sono vecchia, ha detto.
Sono rara
Sono l’ovazione in piedi
alla fine dello spettacolo
Sono la retrospettiva
della mia vita
come arte
Sono le ore
collegate come puntini
dentro il buonsenso.
Sono la pienezza
dell’esistere
Voi pensate che io stia aspettando di morire
ma io aspetto di essere scoperta
Io sono un tesoro
Io sono una mappa
queste rughe sono le tracce
del mio viaggio
Chiedetemi
qualsiasi cosa.

by Samantha Reynolds (Toronto, 1972)
I am not old, she said,
I am rare.
I am the standing ovation
at the end of the play.
I am the retrospective
of my life
as art.
I am the hours
connected like dots
into good sense.
I am the fullness
of existing.
You think I am waiting to die
but I am waiting to be found.
I am a treasure,
I am a map,
these wrinkles are imprints
of my journey.
Ask me
anything.
Samantha Reynolds is many things: entrepreneur, mom, wife, collector of great friends, dreadful cook, and, yes, a poet.
She has been writing a poem every day since 2011 as a way to trick herself into being present to the little moments that would otherwise surely be missed.
