Ella Fitzgerald e Louis Armstrong incisero “Dream a Little Dream of Me” nel 1950, in un duetto iconico che cattura la loro straordinaria chimica vocale. Il brano, scritto nel 1931 da Fabian Andre, Wilbur Schwandt e Gus Kahn, fu registrato con l’orchestra di Sy Oliver e pubblicato originariamente su Decca Records, diventando un classico del jazz.
Ella Fitzgerald nacque il 25 aprile 1917 a Newport News, Virginia, e morì il 15 giugno 1996 a Beverly Hills.
Soprannominata “First Lady of Song” e “Queen of Jazz”, debuttò al Apollo Theater nel 1934 vincendo un concorso amatoriale e fu scoperta da Chick Webb, con cui formò un’orchestra swing fino alla morte di lui nel 1939. Vinse 13 Grammy Awards, vendette oltre 40 milioni di dischi e si distinse per la sua estensione vocale di tre ottave, scat e interpretazioni del Great American Songbook.
Louis Armstrong, noto come “Satchmo” o “Pops”, nacque il 4 agosto 1901 a New Orleans e morì il 6 luglio 1971 a New York.
Trombettista, cantante e compositore, rivoluzionò il jazz spostando l’attenzione dagli ensemble alle improvvisazioni soliste negli anni ’20. La sua carriera durò cinque decenni, influenzando la musica popolare con hit come “What a Wonderful World” e collaborazioni memorabili, inclusa quella con Fitzgerald su album come Ella and Louis (1956).
