Bob Dylan, nato Robert Allen Zimmerman (Duluth, 1941), è un cantautore e musicista statunitense, Premio Nobel per la Letteratura 2016.
Nel 1961 si trasferisce a New York, nel quartiere di Greenwich Village, diventando rapidamente una delle voci più importanti della scena folk di protesta. Con brani come Blowin’ in the Wind e Masters of War diventa simbolo dei movimenti per i diritti civili e contro la guerra, grazie ai testi fortemente politici e poetici.
Alla metà degli anni ’60 Dylan introduce la chitarra elettrica nei suoi concerti, inaugurando il cosiddetto folk‑rock con dischi come Bringing It All Back Home (1965) e l’epocale Blonde on Blonde (1966, tra i primi album doppi della storia del rock). La traccia Like a Rolling Stone (1965), con i suoi oltre sei minuti, diventa un punto di svolta anche per i canoni radiofonici dell’epoca.
Nel corso della sua carriera abbraccia con naturalezza tanti generi: country, blues, gospel, rock, jazz e musica popolare britannica, dimostrando un’eccezionale versatilità. Per la sua innovazione poetica e l’uso rivoluzionario della canzone, nel 2016 gli viene assegnato il Premio Nobel per la Letteratura.
