Phil Collins, In The Air Tonight dall’album Face Value, Virgin Records, 1981
Phil Collins (Chiswick, 1951) è un cantautore, polistrumentista, produttore discografico e attore britannico. Celebre per il suo ruolo nei Genesis come batterista e poi cantante dopo l’uscita di Peter Gabriel nel 1975, ha anche costruito una brillante carriera solista negli anni ’80.
Collins inizia la carriera negli anni ’60 con i Flaming Youth, ma il successo arriva nel 1970 come batterista dei Genesis. Dopo l’abbandono di Gabriel, diventa frontman dal 1976 con album come A Trick of the Tail, mantenendo il ruolo di batterista in studio.
Negli anni ’80 lancia la carriera solista con Face Value (1981), album nato dal divorzio e ispirato al soul, contenente hit come “In the Air Tonight”. Segue il successo planetario di No Jacket Required (1985) e …But Seriously (1989).
